UPDATE: missing male, Snowy Mountains
25.05.13Our south coast Westpac Life Saver helicopter continues to support NSW Police with the extensive search for Prabh Srawn, a Canadian National who has been missing in the Kosciuszki National Park. He was last seen on Monday, 13th May. Lifesaver 3 has been joined by other helicopters from PolAir, Australian Federal Police, and SouthCare as well as officers from NSW Police, the AFP, Victoria Police, the NSW State Emergency Service and National Parks. Lifesaver 3 has been using a thermal imaging camera donated to us by Thales. It has been used extensively and has been an important tool in this search. Already more than 20 flights have been undertaken in the last five days, searching and inserting ground search teams into remote locations. Police are still treating this as a search and rescue operation and the Westpac Life Saver is happy to support them.
Missing bushwalker, search continues
24.05.1324/5, 25/5, 26/5, 27/5, 28/5, 29/5, 30/5 The search for missing bushwalker, Prabhdeep Srawn, Mandeep continued in the Mount Kosciuszko Jindabyne region. Lifesaver 3 assisted in the deployment and extraction of alpine search teams and aerial search and rescue.
Missing male, Snowy Mountains
21.05.13Tasked by NSW Police to search for a missing male in the Snowy Mountains region, particularly around Charlottes Pass and Kosciusko. The crew used a Thales Termal Imaging Camera to locate a heat signature from the air while also landing near small huts in the region to check if anyone was inside. A final search was conducted before last light.
Aerial patrol, Watsons Bay
19.05.13Tasked by Surf Life Saving to fly over Watsons Bay to asses potential danger after sharks and bait fish had been sighted earlier. A search was conducted but nothing was found.
Person in the water, Terrigal Haven
14.05.13Tasked by Surf Life Saving to locate a person who was believed to have slipped off rocks and into the water at Terrigal Haven. An extenstive aerial search was conducted but no one was located. The rescue crewman was then winched into the water to conduct a snorkel search but no one was found.
Cries for help, Balls Head Bay
12.05.13Tasked by NSW Police to assist in the search of a possible person in trouble in the Balls Head Bay region (west of the Harbour Bridge). An extensive search of the area was conducted but no one was found.
Missing couple, Carnival Cruise
10.05.13The search for a missing couple who fell overboard a cruise ship is due to commence again this morning. Paul Rossington, 30, and Kristen Schroder, 27, from NSW fell overboard the Carnival Spirit Cruise Ship off the NSW coast more than 24 hours ago. Emergency services still hold hope the couple might still be alive. A Naval ship and helicopter that are in the area on an exercise have been diverted, and will join NSW Police and Australian Search and Rescue in the search. Sydney’s Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter commenced the search yesterday afternoon off the Sydney coast and by last night, had been diverted to Port Macquarie. The helicopter has been using a Thales thermal imaging camera to detect body heat signatures in the water. The Westpac Life Saver will remain in the area, acting as the rescue helicopter should any person or object such as clothing be located that requires extraction. “The search area covers a massive part of the ocean off the NSW mid-north coast,” said Westpac Life Saver CEO, Stephen Leahy. “It is up to 80 kilometres offshore and extends down the coast from Port Macquarie south towards Port Stephens. “Everyone is still treating this as a search and rescue mission for two survivors and we all hope to find them today,” said Mr Leahy. The search area is approximately 1,000 square kilometres of ocean.
Cliff fall, North Bondi
08.05.13Tasked by NSW Police to rescue a male who had fallen from a cliff at North Bondi. Lifesaver 1 winched the rescue crewman to the rocks and stabilised the patient. He then liaised with Police and Ambulance personnel at the scene to determine the safest recovery. It was decided the best option was for the Ambulance helicopter to winch the person to safety.
Possible surfer in trouble, Bondi
05.05.13Surf Life Saving notified the Westpac Life Saver that their assistance may be required after a surfboard was found washed on the beach south of North Bondi SLSC. Shortly after Lifesaver 1 conducted an extensive search of the rocks and beach areas and out to sea but no one was found.
Beacon search, Sydney Basin
02.05.13Tasked by Australian Search and Rescue to respond to an activated distress beacon in the Sydney Basin area. An extensive search from Narrabeen to the Spit Bridge, Harbour Bridge and Iron Cove Bridge was conducted. The beacon was heard at 6,000 feet in the Cockatoo Island area. After refuelling, the search continued but nothing was located.
